Vision Correction

Vision problems are often detected during eye exams. Whether you are dealing with nearsightedness, farsightedness, or another eye problem, vision correction is often necessary. Fortunately, there are several ways to correct your vision, so you can choose an option that fits your needs and lifestyle. At West Village Eyecare, we help residents in Manhattan and the West Village with their vision. Let’s look at some options for vision correction to consider.

Vision Correction

Glasses

Glasses are the most common form of vision correction. In this case, you will get lenses fitted to your exact vision needs. Our optometry experts will give you an eye exam and determine what you need to correct your vision. You might need to wear glasses all the time or they might only be needed for reading or driving. When you wear glasses, it is very important to take care of them. If they crack or go missing, you will have to deal with blurry vision until you can get another pair. You might consider getting a backup set of glasses just in case.

Contact Lenses

Contact lenses work in much the same way that glasses do. Your optometrist will administer an eye exam to determine what you need for either nearsightedness or farsightedness. We will give you contact lenses, which are small lenses made of silicone or similar materials. You will put the lens directly over your eyeball to correct your vision. Contact lenses are very convenient and effective but must be used according to your eye doctor’s instructions to avoid eye infections.

Surgery

Surgery is a more permanent vision correction method. Our optometry center can provide pre and post-op care if you choose LASIK for your method of vision correction. Refractive surgeries, such as LASIK, are quite common. The procedure uses lasers to reshape the cornea and correct your vision.

Surgery is more extreme than glasses or contacts, but it can permanently improve your vision. You will need to be prepared for a recovery period of at least a few weeks and make sure that you take precautions to keep your eyes safe during this time. If you are interested in surgery, talk to your optometrist at your next eye exam.
